A simple recipe for healthy keto broccoli and cheese sauce. There’s no flour within the sauce! Just heavy cream, cheddar, and spices.
Broccoli and cheese sauce is among the easiest ways I’ve discovered to create this vegetable so palatable, that the Picky Eater would accept eat it, while enthusiastically requesting seconds. This recipe is good and keto. It has no flour.
Personally, I really like the easiest steamed broccoli. I believe it’s good simply by itself, with only a sprinkle of pepper and salt. It’s better still with essential olive oil, fresh lemon juice, and garlic clove.
However, many people (ahem, I’m searching to you, dear daughter) need butter and/or cheese on their own broccoli to really make it palatable, and that’s fine. I frequently create a very tasty broccoli casserole, a pizza-inspired casserole that we all like.
How can you make cheese sauce for broccoli?
It’s a simple recipe. The detailed instructions have been in the recipe card below. The fundamental steps:
- Steam the broccoli within the microwave.
- Warm up the sauce – it requires all a few minutes to become ready. Simply heat the heavy cream using the Dijon and spices. Then, over low heat, gradually and with patience add the cheese until fully melted.
- Pour the sauce within the broccoli, then serve.
Should i add flour towards the sauce to thicken it?
The classic recipe requires flour, which will help enhance the sauce’s texture. However I discover that this no-flour keto cheese sauce is great. It’s wealthy, creamy, and it is thickness is ideal.
I actually do recommend using store-bought shredded cheese within this recipe. I believe the little bit of anti-caking agent typically put into store-bought shredded cheese (powdered cellulose within the Whole-foods brand) helps the sauce thicken.
If you’re shredding your personal cheese and you’re feeling the keto cheese sauce is simply too thin, simply stir in a little more cheese – try 1/4 cup more.
You may also mix 1 teaspoon corn starch with 1 teaspoon cold water and stir that in to the sauce. This can give a small quantity of carbs – 2 grams for the whole recipe.
I favor corn starch to flour because it’s usually gluten-free, and you may use a smaller amount of it.
Don’t skip the mustard
The Dijon mustard adds great flavor towards the sauce. However I suspect it may also help avoid the sauce from becoming stringy with the addition of an acidic component. So please don’t skip it.
Is broccoli and cheese sauce healthy?
I believe that it is. Broccoli is clearly very healthy. When it comes to cheese, current research informs us that for many healthy people, full-fat dairy is harmless, and can be also advantageous.
